Drinking Water for Detoxification

The winter solstice is just around the corner, can you believe we are in June already!? Winter has really come in hard and fast here on the Gold Coast hinterland, with some nights below 0 c 🥶 Not to mention, so many are getting sick at the moment!

Have you been drinking enough water for your Detox pathways?

I've noticed many of us tend to throw our water consumption out the window as soon as those chilly winter days arrive. Water plays such a huge role in the body and is required for optimal cellular functioning. Water helps transport nutrients around the body, in and out of the cell, remove cellular waste and debris, is part of the regulatory mechanisms for blood pressure, kidney and liver function, not to mention our digestive tract!

What happens if we don't drink enough water?

A shortage of water leads to huge impacts for those with hormonal conditions including endometriosis, since the liver is required to break down hormones for excretion. Poor hydration leads to feeling fatigued, sluggish, brain fog, dry lips and skin, constipation, acne and so many other problems.

You might have seen on my instagram stories some top tips to keep hydrated during winter. For those that missed it, I will share some tips below:

Top tips to hydrate in winter

  • Drink a large cuppa in the morning with brekky (coffee doesn't count sorry [it's a diuretic]). Buy one of those 500ml mugs from Kmart for $2, and you'll be way to reaching your daily water intake goal.

  • Sip on warm or hot water instead of cold refrigerated water. This is more warming on the digestive tract, especially if you add some lemon and fresh ginger!

  • Have water bottles in convenient locations such as at your office, in your car, beside your bed etc. Ideally, use stainless or glass materials to avoid micro-plastics

  • Fill up a large water bottle in the morning and add some electrolytes. Ideally low sugar, this will slightly flavour the water making it more palatable, and the electrolytes will help with hydration and energy production

  • Consume more soups. Purchase a bone broth paste, or Nutra Organics powder, add to soup mug like a "cup of soup", add in some soba noodles or (rice noodles if GF) and hot water. This will help increase your hydration levels

Consuming adequate water, aiming for at least 30ml per kg/body weight (or more if exercising/sweating profusely) can truly improve your overall health. Your skin will glow, hormones and gut behave better, you'll have more energy and mental clarity....seriously, do yourselves a favour and experience the benefits first hand!

So, there you have it, some of my top tips for consuming more water in winter months!

Until next time
